Your journey to trust, affection and unconditional love
Your journey to trust, affection and unconditional love
Did you land on this page because your relationship has lost trust, passion, or the ability to communicate effectively? Perhaps you and your partner have grown apart and feel like there’s no way forward. Don’t despair – relationship counselling can help.
By working together, you can enhance communication, resolve conflicts, and establish or restore trust. Take the first step towards a happier, healthier relationship and explore the benefits of relationship counseling today.
Each relationship is built on 3 main variables: first, one person with their values, worldview, and past experiences. Second, another person with their values, worldview and past experiences. Third is communication between those two people. The issues generally arise in one or more of those areas.
During relationship counselling sessions, we work on improving communication, deepening understanding, and rebuilding trust (if broken). However, if past negative experiences affect the current relationship, I will offer individual therapy sessions in addition to the relationship counselling session to resolve the past.
During separation counselling, the emphasis will be on effective communication, conflict resolution, and the creation of future-focused amicable relationships.
Generally, one session is 60 minutes, which is often enough for most couples. Still, some couples are more chatty than others, so I also offer 90-minute sessions to accommodate this. You can book online (Zoom) sessions or face-to-face sessions at my counselling room in Brentwood, Essex.
The appointments are available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday between 12:00 and 21:00, Wednesday between 12:00 and 21:30, and Friday between 10:00 and 14:00.
Relationship counselling can be an effective tool for improving any relationship, but it is not a one-size-fits-all solution. If one partner enters counselling with the belief that their partner is solely at fault for the issues in the relationship, it can be challenging to make any progress.
Additionally, those who approach counselling with the expectation that the therapist will “fix” their relationship are unlikely to see results. As a therapist, I cannot fix people or relationships, but I can provide guidance and support for those who are willing to work on themselves and their relationships.
The couples who benefit most from relationship counselling are those who are open-minded, willing to examine their own attitudes and behaviours, learn new communication skills, and practice patience with each other.
It ultimately depends on the individual’s willingness to change and the specific issues being addressed. From my experience, weekly or bi-weekly sessions tend to work best. Gaps longer than 2 weeks between sessions can be less effective. Couples often start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions and transition to 1-2 monthly sessions once their main issues have been resolved., they move onto 1-2 monthly sessions.
Couples often seek counselling for various reasons, such as improving communication, rebuilding trust, resolving conflicts, or bringing more passion into their relationship.
Sometimes, I work with couples who want to end their relationship or marriage amicably and understand why things didn’t work out. It’s easy to blame your partner, but it’s important to realise that destructive patterns can also stem from oneself.
Another reason why couples seek counselling is when they don’t know how to handle separation when children are involved. They often struggle with telling their children and making arrangements that ensure a healthy emotional environment for them after separation.
Absolutely. Even if you attend a therapy session alone, it can still be beneficial for you to gain a better understanding of your situation. Additionally, you may learn some helpful techniques for improving your communication skills. Taking this first step can often lead to the desired changes you’re seeking.
In some cases, relationships can become too damaged to be repaired. When children are involved, it’s crucial to prioritise their mental health and consider a peaceful separation. Learning how to communicate clearly and protect your boundaries without conflict is a valuable skill in this situation. By doing so, you can ensure that your children’s well-being is not compromised.
Additionally, separation counselling can help you end your relationship or marriage amicably while understanding why things didn’t work out. It’s natural to blame your partner, but it’s vital to realise that destructive patterns can also stem from oneself. Understanding this can help you move on in a healthier way, leading to a happier future.
When a romantic relationship ends, both parties often wish to understand why it didn’t work out, in order to avoid making the same mistakes in the future. The process of separating also allows individuals to learn how to transition into a platonic friendship with their former partner.
Post-separation counselling is usually about improving communication, resolving conflict and co-parenting. By prioritising effective communication and collaboration, you can create a more stable and peaceful co-parenting relationship that benefits both you and your children.
Family mediation is a form of conflict resolution that is usually sought out when both partners find it difficult to communicate effectively and come to an amicable decision about co-parenting or finances. The aim of mediation is to help couples reach an agreement rather than simply helping them to communicate better. Please note that I am not authorised to facilitate Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAM), which are mandatory for couples by the courts before they decide to separate.
